Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
So wtf is this Operation: R.R.H.C.?!
Well, sonny, sit down and I'll tell you. >[
This is the major Dango Dewdrop project for the year where Geoff, Reyna, Maria, Summer, and myself all make a calendar to be sold at Kawaii-Kon.
The theme is Little Red Riding Hood.
Coloring will be done in Water Color.
Printing is to be determined, but our back up is Costco.

Imma doin January (alice in wonderland) and March (thumbelina). though the stories may be swapped

hahaha I do indeed have the paper. I'm doing the Minstrels of Bremen in April, Beauty and the Beast in Sept, and Swan Lake in December.
If anyone wants to trade months or do one of these pictures, I'm good with that. There's another fairy tale I'd like to do so if you want one of my current ones you can take it!

Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
Also, I had the idea that for each of our months we could do an icon to go in the date boxes of holidays. Like for mine, for April Fool's Day I could draw one of the minstrels with a 'kick me' sign on his back or something.
I also think that we should cram this calendar full of as many holidays as we possibly can. And I guess if we do make icons for holidays we could do one a month, or maybe only for the really big school-getting-out holidays.
Too bad we couldn't have made the calendar for this year, then we could include Hawai'i's fiftieth anniversary of statehood! Happy statehood day everybody!

Hmmm... If we're gonna print this as a calender, I dont think that the printers will let us play around with the calender part of the paper. usually, you only can put pictures in, and thats all....
unless we make stickers and stick em on after printing

Hey Summer! You gotta come up with something for June!
And also Jacque Custeau, I just have to say I'm very opposed to having that single Asian fairytale in a calendar where everything else is European. Unless we get more Asian fairytales to replace some of the ones we already have, I think you should pick something else.
We can do an Asian fairytale calendar next next year!

Well Geoff isn't even doing a fairy tale. And Summer is doing another Asian fairy tale with me: Momotaro.
Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
Rapunzel is a fairy tale... by the Grimm Bros.(?)

I was talking about Alice in Wonderland, yo.
Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
well... it still is a fairytale. o_o
fairytale: an interesting but highly implausible story; often told as an excuse

Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
But Alice in Wonderland is a novel. D8
Also, in that case, I should be able to do Harry Potter as mine. 8D That's a highly implausible story that was interesting. OR TWILIGHT. LAWL.

Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
Well... there is no solid classification of a fairy tale... ._.
But what makes fit, and yours not is that it's written by a white person! :D

Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
Hm well I still think that we should have either more Asian fairytales to help even it out a little more, or else none at all.
And really, seriously, Asian and European fairytales are so different from each other I can almost guarantee that the whiplash from turning the calendar from a month of Hansel and Gretel to suddenly find Momotaro will break all of our purchasers' necks.
Just think how it would be if we had an Asian fairytale calendar that suddenly had two American tall tales thrown randomly into the middle of it.
I'm only concerned about the appearance of quality in our work. People will think that we were not communicating during the creation process and no clue what the hell we were supposed to be doing.

Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
In fact! If we're going to be having those two Asian fairytales, we should make this calendar a world-encompassing effort. We can include some Aboriginal stories from Australia, some Mexican ghost stories, even some Hindu myths from India!
We can kick out some of those numerous Hans Christian Andersen stories, and we can even replace some of his more well-known ones we've chosen with his Danish heritage folk tales!
):<
Also, congradulations on making the hundredth post Geoffrey Siu.

Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
I think we should just keep the stories the way they are... popular is popular. When customers know what they're buying, they're more likely to buy it. Thus the reason why fanart sells better than original art at the same degree of skill executed.
I can't name any aboriginal, mexican, or hindu stories to be used, and that's not because I don't get out much. I also highly doubt that people at KK would even care about aboriginal stories. (this is an anime con isn't it?)
Of anything, I would change the stories that are not the most easily recognized. Little Red Riding Hood, Alice In Wonderland, Rapunzel, Momotaro, Beauty and the Beast, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella..... Those are all stories that we all know very well as they're the most popularly told.
Swan Lake, Minstrels of Bremen, and Thumbelina aren't so easily familiar to the average person.

Re: Operation: Calendar [Now with even more fairy tales!]
I was trying to sarcastically prove a point with the different culture stories. Did you not see the angry face there?
And this is not an issue of what's popular. This is an issue of the quality and uniformity of our merchandise. You can't just slap a bunch of things together when the only thing they have in common is being well-known. I don't understand how this is so hard for everyone to grasp! If you at least understand where I'm coming from and are only fighting me because you don't care about our merchandise looking well-made, then please tell me so so I can stop trying to make my point.
Also, as much as you can't believe it, people are in fact willing to give things that are new to them a chance. In fact, it's when people see the same thing over and over again that they start to tune it out, and it's when they see something new that their interest is piqued and they go in for a closer look.
